Flexible Learning

Flexible Learning, Accelerated Learning, The Individual Learning Program and The Problem-Based Learning Program.

Participate in FLEXIBLE LEARNING with our INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PROGRAM suited for accelerated learning and Distance Students.

The Flexible learning Centre has made serious, in-depth study of Natural Therapies leading to bona fide qualifications in the Natural & Traditional Therapies Profession possible for highly motivated students previously unable to study due to geographical or other constraints.

For many people the thought of full-time attendance at College on top of heavy commitments to work and family is not viable. Flexible learning offers alternatives to On-Campus Study. Physically disadvantaged people, shift workers, and mature-aged students with other demands on their time may opt for a more flexible way of learning. Health workers and other professionals, teachers and other graduates can negotiate a curriculum around their previous studies, taking into account both formal and informal learning, knowledge and qualifications which they may already have.

The Individual Learning Program, Accelerated Learning Program and Problem-based Learning Program offer systems of learning that enables students to have access to tutorial programs in addition to, or instead of attending classes. For those students who need a little bit more individual help, it is the ideal way to test knowledge, or gain extra information. Our Flexible Learning Centre provides a flexible-access system where you can access college resources in out-of-class times. On-Campus or telephone tutorials give you access to tutors who can help you with every facet of the course. All courses are offered through on- or off- Campus study with a combination of lectures, tutorials, practical fieldwork and audiovisual presentations.

The College Resource Centre has books covering hundreds of natural and traditional therapy topics that will inspire and encourage you to learn. We also have videos, audio-cassettes and are introducing computer-based tutorials and CD Roms to assist in the learning process.

For those living close to Adelaide, the Flexible Learning Centre can offer a system of learning that allows you to study part on-campus and part in the comfort of your own home, giving you the mixture of the camaraderie of a class-room situation and the intense one-on-one of individual coaching.

For those living far from Adelaide, the Flexible Learning Centre can offer a system of learning that allows you to study in your home town and many modules can be completed by distance education. All courses require completion of units of competency which are available by flexible learning, but need to be completed in face-to-face sessions and these are offered as intensives. Where students are unable to attend any sessions in Adelaide, individual arrangements can be made for approval of alternative options.

Some subjects can be completed in your workplace, in our workplace, or as a combination of on and off the job delivery through the SA College of Natural Medicine, anywhere in Australia.

The courses have been designed with flexibility of presentation so that students can more easily fit study around their other commitments. Each module (of underpinning knowledge) and units of competency are divided into manageable sections. These sections are completed at the students own pace and whilst we recommend that two weeks for each section should be adequate, the college gives students every assistance to complete the work in a reasonable time. There are research and tutorial questions and exercises at the end of each section in the modules and in some modules there are also assignments and examinations to complete. These are placed into each course as required at various intervals.

The presentation of flexible learning courses currently includes a combination of written notes, textbook references, recommended reading lists and audiovisual presentations. The College is also working on developing the course into computer assisted learning format. This service will be offered as an option to those students who have access to a computer.

A support person is available to students, in person, by fax, or by telephone (an appointment is needed). Assistance is available in the areas of careers advice, study load, Research & Referencing Skills and specific course-related queries. All support persons are fully trained Natural and Traditional Therapists experienced in training. Established times are set aside for students to telephone and telephone tutorials can be easily arranged.

Flexible learning means mixing and matching styles of delivery to suit your lifestyle
